Director Lisa Pluff Congratulates the Class of 2020

“We will all remember this year for your strength, your determination, and your remarkable ability to proceed and cross the finish line, in the face of so many challenges. We are all very proud of you, but most importantly, you should be proud of yourselves,” said Beyond Academics Director Lisa Pluff as she addressed the graduates. Through this program of study, students build independence, increase self-determination, gain skills for employment and careers, and become engaged citizens in our communities – a universal and shared aspiration among all college students and graduates.

Beyond Academics

UNCG’s Beyond Academics is a program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are interested in furthering their education.

Comprehensive transition and postsecondary education programs like ours empower students as they transition into adulthood. Beyond Academics’ four-year Integrative Community Studies certificate – awarded by UNCG’s Office of the Provost – emphasizes self-determination, life planning, and career development.

With access to an array of campus and community resources, each Beyond Academics student develops a personalized plan to optimize their educational and life experiences in the program. Resources include individualized support, available during the week and weekends, focusing on co-currricular activities, including campus involvement, and personal skill development.
